Narasaraopet

Narasaraopet is a mandal in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. The city gets its name from Malraju Venkata Narasimha Rao, a wealthy landlord who owned most of the land in and around Narasaraopet. The city of Narasaraopet was also known as Atluru in ancient times. The city serves as an assembly seat and the seat of Narasaraopet revenue division. It is a commercial hub and has many educational institutions and colleges.

Population
As per the 2011 census, the population of Narasaraopet is 116,329. The number of males and females are 58,898 and 57,431 respectively. The average literacy rate of Narasaraopet is 79.45 percent. The male literacy rate is 85.59 percent and female literacy rate is 73.18 percent.

Places to See
The weather is very hot in Narasaraopet; hence it is advisable to not visit it in summer months. There are many temples in and around Narasaraopet. These include Ayyappa temple at Chirala, Venugopal Swami Temple at Narasaraopet Road, Sai Baba temple at Guntur Road and Sri Anjaneya temple.
Kotappakonda is situated 13 Kms away from Narasaraopet and is home to a temple dedicated to Sri Trikoteshwara Swami. The temple is surrounded by 3 hills that can be viewed from any direction. These hills are called Trikutachalam or Trikotadri and are known as Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra. The festival of Mahashivratri is celebrated here with a lot of fervor and many devotees come to pay home to Lord Shiva during the time.
There are some wildlife parks near Kotappakonda that are visited by many tourists.

By Road
Narasaraopet is well connected by road to cities and towns within Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. There are regular buses from Narasaraopet to Guntur, Hyderabad, Kurnool, Vijayawada and many other destinations. Guntur is about 45 Kms from the city and state transport buses ply regularly between the 2 cities.

By Rail
Narasaraopet has a railway station that falls in the Guntur region of the Southern Central railways. Trains ply from Narasaraopet to Guntur, Kurnool, Amravati, Howrah, Yeshwantpur, Kondaveedu, Goa, Bhubaneshwar, Puri, Machilipatnam, Bengaluru, Kacheguda and Hubli on a regular basis.

By Air
The closest airport from Nasaraopet is at Vijayawada. It is at a distance of about 100 Kms from the city of Nasaraopet.

Business

Nasaraopet has many colleges and institutions of higher studies. Agriculture is a major source of livelihood. Paddy, tobacco and cotton crops are grown in and around Nasaraopet.
